My first ever market stall was a big success yesterday at The Post Box Cafe Market in Chorlton, Manchester. It was a shabby chic affair – more chic than shabby! There were jazz singers, kittens and sangria in the sunshine. As the pumpkins grin with Harvest mischief, and the smell of gunpowder hangs in the crisp air, I have the memories of a great summer to keep me warm.
Getting in the mood for the night of the wandering dead.
This is Wicked Uncle Truffle from Kathleen Hale’s lavishly illustrated children’s book Orlando the Marmalade Cat (His Silver Wedding) which was a favourite of mine as a little devil. Read more about the wicked world of Kathleen Hale here.
Little ginger cat
It’s a hazy shade of summer down on the allotment, everything’s blooming, colourful chaos. I slipped through security and wandered into the sunset, meeting a gorgeous little ginger cat who rolled around and posed for pictures. How do cats know it’s a camera? Little Ginge reminded me of the Late Great Sparky, my beloved super-sized tom cat who features elsewhere on The Vibes. The bees were buzzing in the dying rays of the sun, refusing to pose for the camera – just too plain busy! Good to see so many of them.

Much as I’d like to show you some pictures of Cats the musical, there were no cameras allowed and particularly vigilant staff hovering over me for the entire show. The evening was spectacular, a riot of colour and the second half conquered it’s first-night nerves for a storming performance. The British show, currently touring in the UK is also the longest running touring show in the States and is based on T.S Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats.
