Breakfast in Mayfair

London Porches in Kensington, by Mark Wallis on thevibes.me

Elegant London

Waking up in the spring sunshine, stepping onto the balcony of my Nash terrace in one of London’s more exclusive squares, is a moment to savour. Until room service reminds me I have to check out. Set camera to Stun.

Greek Church Bayswater

The architecture of London is arresting, diverse and chaotic. Baroque and Brutalist, side by side. I can’t turn a corner without snapping away. I’m a tourist who stops traffic to get the perfect view, carrying a legal disclaimer for the police (written by the police) in case anyone tries to interfere.

Just a couple of days in the capital, a surprise whistle-stop tour.

It’s so hot on Oxford Street, we buy chilled coconuts and drink the milk through a straw. Luxury in the dust! The sun sets on Soho Square, and we have to make our way back to Manchester. For all the noise and chaos, London is a difficult city to leave.

Media City

Manchester, Hollywood of the North. Once a faceless playset of Legoland offices and toy block apartments, Salford Quays has emerged as a creative hub of TV studios, theatres and galleries. Architecturally daring and visually stunning (be there at dusk) this is the proof of Second City status. You can also get really cheap jeans here, too.

Are You Reading Me?

The Trafford Centre by Mark WallisSome of my followers at The Vibes have been wondering if I’m drifting away from the cupcakes and kittens of WordPress to darker pastures. Like Facebook.  After a colourful summer rolling in the grass and taking lots of pastoral pictures, I’ve been getting in the mood for Halloween as the nights draw in and we huddle down for winter. Planning spooky costumes and making little horror movies has kept me from publishing some of my photographs, so here’s the first batch. We’ll call them Architecturals.

The Rich and the Random

Here are some rich and random textures from my picture vault. The most recent is the arched doorway from Whalley Range. The sun was streaming into my humble phone camera resulting in a real dud which I rescued using Photoshop Express and Tadaa. All on the phone, all on the hop. As you can tell, I’m still amazed by technology.
