It’s been a while since I made a film, and this is two minutes of sun, song and sausages. The allotment is the most wonderful place to chill, although I got sunburn (in Manchester?) and lightly grilled my face while cooking al fresco. And if I say folk music, sunsets, cats and characters, all surrounded by wild flowers then you’ll know the evening ticked all my hippy boxes. Viva la vodka! Featuring Gordon Whitelock on acoustic guitar. Bliss.

Barbecue Sunset
Hazy Shade of Summer
It’s a hazy shade of summer down on the allotment, everything’s blooming, colourful chaos. I slipped through security and wandered into the sunset, meeting a gorgeous little ginger cat who rolled around and posed for pictures. How do cats know it’s a camera? Little Ginge reminded me of the Late Great Sparky, my beloved super-sized tom cat who features elsewhere on The Vibes. The bees were buzzing in the dying rays of the sun, refusing to pose for the camera – just too plain busy! Good to see so many of them.
The Rich and the Random
Here are some rich and random textures from my picture vault. The most recent is the arched doorway from Whalley Range. The sun was streaming into my humble phone camera resulting in a real dud which I rescued using Photoshop Express and Tadaa. All on the phone, all on the hop. As you can tell, I’m still amazed by technology.
Pimm’s on the Allotment
Oh how terribly English! This week I went back to Shaun’s allotment, which is now in full bloom. Because Brit Summer is such an unpredictable lass, the nation tends to go slightly crazy when the sun comes out, and you all know how I like my rays. I grab the beautiful details with my phone, usually at random, and record them here so you can all see how I view the world. It’s not a charmed life that I lead, so I appreciate those little glimpses of beauty – nature in full parade.
Lying in the Grass
When the sun shines, I worship. British weather is reliably unpredictable so the chance to roll around in the grass while I turn a strange shade of beetroot is something to be cherished. I watch dogs playing, butterflies skip round my head and my mind plays Perfect Day by Lou Reed. “Drink sangria in the park…” Mine’s a banana and strawberry smoothie, thanks. On the news, many thousands of people are rioting over the right to keep their green spaces…and their rights in general. Every second of peace, here, is a luxury to me.
