Instant Karma

golden buddha head and shoulders

“The world is so loud. Keep falling. I’ll find you.”

This mantra, hypnotic and beautiful is from Snowflake by Kate Bush. It’s repeated with glacial poise and it came to mind while taking these photographs. My travels around the WordPress Topics page have shown me some wonderful things, but also some shocking hate-filled blogs. From Cross people, as I call them – if you know what I mean? So I thought I’d post these pictures to restore a little karma. Happy New Year!

black and white buddha

Black and white can add real drama and depth to a picture…

I just got a new app for my iPhone, and decided to experiment on my little Buddha. My kitchen work top served as a studio, with All Saints wrapping paper as a backdrop and a shaving mirror as an accent light reflector.

Deciding which filter to use can be really difficult when you like all of them. I love the washed out inky blacks in this one.

More Santorini Vibes

I came here looking for the famous blue-domed church which features so seductively in all the pictures of Santorini. It wasn’t long before I realised there has been some kind of church-building competition which means there are almost as many blue domes as there are houses. They look like someone left a selection of wedding cakes across the island. Blue, peach, white… all of them handsome and striking. Apart from the peach. I’m not sure about the peach.

I’m using the WordPress app for iPhone by the way, and it seems to work like a dream, in case anyone’s interested. Unfortunately, Wi-Fi in Santorini seems to be like trying to pick up radio signals in World War II: any expressive hand gestures and you can forget about a signal.

More fun with iPhone and Photoshop

This is my bedside table lamp, fed through a kaleidoscope app and then ‘shopped. Called it Blue Volts, because it looks a bit electrical. Continue reading

Cheshire Plains Again.

It’s nearly-not-quite summer! I’m a bit late with the window boxes, but I finally got to go to the garden centres of sunny Cheshire. I can’t pronounce the name of these ones, so we’ll call them ‘Yellow Flowers.’ No good at latin. Continue reading

Photo Art

I took these pictures on my iPhone, which doesn’t have the best camera in the world, and then altered them with the Photoshop app. As you can see, you can cheat and make a very ordinary picture look like you didn’t take it yourself.

You might have noticed that my overall style is quite…bright. That’s because I’m partially colourblind, and so pastel shades are out. Sorry about that. You might need sunglasses to view these pages. Meanwhile, here’s some subtelty.
