It’s All About the Satyr

It looks like the whole tradition of Halloween goes back thousands of years, which makes me feel so much better when I’m walking around looking diabolical.

Mummery, or the art of disguise was supposed to confuse the spirits of evil by imitating them and confusing their dark hearts, rendering them useless.

Gotta love those Pagans, whose Gaelic heritage was plundered by the invention of christianity, and our loveable horny, primitive Satyr (the hairy drunken guy who will do anyone for a laugh) gets cast as Satan, Lord of Darkness. Sounds like a bum deal to me. Some of my best nights have been with Satyrs.

It’s not the kind of title you expect to see on The Vibes, so let’s embrace the unexpected for a moment here. The remaining movies which accompany Goldfrapp’s Tales Of Us album were leaked recently, and for just a fleeting moment I was able to steal some screen caps from the video for Jo, which seems to be about split personalities and murderous passion. The result is this imaginary movie poster, continuing the horror theme which snakes through the album.

Harvey Milk – Gay Superhero

Celebrating the most dynamic and wonderful man, a man who the world still needs today. He was the world’s first honestly gay politician. And he was murdered by a colleague who would be deemed psychotic by today’s standards. There are too many hate-filled religious lunatics preaching fear and intolerance. The fight for equality means that gay people are still enduring their own civil rights movement. In 2013. We may think we are living in the future, with its information superhighway and particle accelerators, but a lot of people are condemned to live in the past. By people who should know better. To those bigots I say ‘Stop obsessing about what other people do in bed and get a life of your own.’

Be The Light

Ladies and gentlemen, I’m very proud to announce the World Premiere of my latest video. The Manchester Lesbian and Gay Chorus sang ‘Dream a Little Dream of Me’ for the World AIDS Day Partnership’s Be The Light candlelight procession. It was a magical evening, as you can see, and we froze our bits off! But we stopped traffic. This is a little film I made for everyone who volunteered. Let’s make next year even bigger and better!
