The Cosmic Jukebox – Digital Art

The Vibes Cosmic Jukebox Gramophone Mark Wallis

For some strange reason I woke up with a head full of gramophones and bass-bins, and a vague smokey idea formed in my mind’s eye. Combining my fascination with retro-tech, mandalas and nixie-clock neon, a rather bold-looking music machine emerged from Photoshop in all it’s steampunk glory. This is a collage of about ten separate images, all wrangled into place.

The Cosmic Jukebox is here, and you can hear my remixes, edits and original tunes on my dream-pop music page. Expect “shooting stars and astral choirs, summer flutes and sitars.”

Cosmic Jukebox

Exclusive! The Flaming Lips remixed.

It Overtakes Me The Flaming Lips Slow Lane mix CoverIt Overtakes Me – The Flaming lips (Slow Lane Mix)

It’s a huge cosmic sigh, the sound of a man staring into space trying to make sense of it all, and also the sound of me in the bath (stop laughing please, this is serious) imagining new layers to a stark track which needed some starlight. Originally the second half of the single It Overtakes Me, which you may remember from the famous beer commercial (Beck’s 4-Step), The Stars are so Big…I am so Small…Do I Stand a Chance? was the celestial second act which contrasted so much with it’s brother. I took the acoustic guitar from the end and built the whole track around it, taking samples of vocal and making them echo in the style of 10cc’s I’m Not in Love. I also played the flute over most of the song, resulting in richer, warmer layers of sound. As far as I know, I’m the only person to remix this track.

Taken from The Cosmic Jukebox, my remixes, mashups and original music.

New from Goldfrapp

female pop star

Alison Goldfrapp

Big things are ready to roll for Goldfrapp this year, with Melancholy Sky lighting the fuse this week and a Singles Compilation to follow in February. Currently working on a new album, which I have a sneaking suspicion will echo the best of Felt Mountain and Seventh Tree, Goldfrapp found time to slip this remix of Strict Machine through Pete Tong’s letterbox. More launch pad than rocket, it’s a bouncy mix, with stripped back vocals, aching with cool and probably their most credible visit to the dance floor yet.

Strict Machine (Jamie Jones mix)

Melancholy Sky (with a cool fan-made video to go with it)

Also released as a teaser, the sublime slow burner Yellow Halo complete with dreamy video

Check out my Vibe-O-scope to hear the original version of Strict Machine, complete with freaky video

More wonderful electric Goldfrapp goodies here, including some of my exclusive remixes.

Happy Christmas!

The original version of Goldfrapp’s Winter Wonderland sounded unfinished. I finished it with a choir, bells and big drums. Tinkerbell meets Slade. I also added extra whistling and a quote from It’s a Wonderful Life at the end. I think it’s Animal from The Muppets on drums…enjoy and have a great Christmas.

The Return of The Found Sound Orchestra

Found Sound Orchestra

‘The Found Sound Orchestra embrace your Mum and Dad’s record collection and re-love your sisters Smash Hits flexi disc of Bucks Fizz B sides to make the type of audio cocktail better heard than explained.’

They’re back. After a five month hiatus, The Found Sound Orchestra return with a chilled and quirky tune. Explaining their absence, Kneel Mason of the FSO said, “Whoops!’ and “Erm…” This year’s 52 Weeks project has been so good that you can forgive the long silence. And it’s all free, so who’s complaining?
